Hey Blogstreamers!!! What's up?? I'm making bacon and hamsteak, so, I've gotta keep my mind on the time.. Not a good idea.. Cooking while blogging.. I've burned more shit that way! ;-)
I'm watching (well flip flopping back and forth) the Cody Posey case on Court TV and "Starting Over"...
damn! I just burned the bacon! Not all of it..Just a few strips.. ;-) Just a little crispy...
Now, I'm caught up in this black history docutary of the freedman papers.. The journals of the freed slaves. It's narrated by the likes of Whoopie Goldbergh and Jasmine Guy.. A few other notables are there too.. I got the book from the library once. It's an amazing thing..That these journals were preserved.. Yes, I do have my serious moments.. My surrogate grandmother is like 98 years old. She's from Florida.. I love old heads.. You can learn so much from them..
I love black history... It's so interesting and rich you know? I would love to know my heritage.. I mean, I know that basically I am African, Indian, and Egyptian.. But, I want to know more you know? An African woman told me in college about my Egyptian blood. I was in college, and she stopped me on the train and aske me if I knew my African Heritage... Ummm..Well, generally yeah! She looked into my face and said "I can tell you exactly where you are from".. I was like..Okay.. She says.. "you are an Egyptian woman".. So, that's where I got that from.. She seemed so wise, this woman.. But, how did I get here? To America? That's my question.. I mean, I know how I got here.. I'm pretty sure of that.. How many Africans actually migrated to America? Duh! But, you get my meanin'.. My Daddy was from Norfolk Virginia, and he was born in 1927.. My brother Jr. got in touch with some of his family down there after he died.. He wants me to go down there to meet them.. I haven't done it yet. I'll bet I could get a lot of info from them eh?
I love the old Negro sprirituals too! The slave songs.. They're so sweet and sincere, and they sing a song of strength and faith.. And the strength of the Negro woman.. She had to be incredibly strong.. It resonates today actually... To this day, we associate black women to being strong.. I think that's in most cases anyway..
I'm so proud of how far we've come as a nation though! It's history, and although we can still feel the sting of the past, I think it's kool to celebrate the present. We've made and are making great progress in the race relations department.. I knew we would though! My generation "X" and the one after "Y" started to break that mold, and boy are we proud!!!!!
Okay peeps.. Enough rambling.. Gonna check the rest of this show!
XOXOXO
